confickerConficker, also known as Downup, is a worm exploits a vulnerability in Windows and spread itself to millions of computers. The worm was first detected in October 2008. Conficker is believed to be the most widespread computer worm infection since SQL Slammer in 2003. According to anti virus security firm Panda, the estimated number of infected computers ranged from almost 9 million to 15 million as of January 2009.

It was reported that from midnight on 1 April, the Conficker program will start scanning thousands of websites for a new set of instructions telling it what to do next. But Conficker didn’t live up to that much hyped expectation. Although April 1st passed experts believe Conficker could still be a threat. If you want to make sure your Windows system is not infected try to access symantec.com or microsoft.com from your browser. If you cannot visit only these sites your system might have infected.
